TheDiscomBill is a Progressive Web App. You can add it to your home screen or desktop straight from the browser — no Play Store, no App Store, no account, and no install file to download. Once installed it opens in its own window and the calculator keeps working with no internet connection.

How to install

Android — Chrome, Edge, Brave or Samsung Internet

  1. Open thediscombill.com in your browser.
  2. Tap the ⋮ menu at the top right.
  3. Tap Install app (or Add to Home screen).
  4. Confirm. The icon appears on your home screen like any other app.

iPhone and iPad — Safari

  1. Open thediscombill.com in Safari. On iOS this must be Safari — Chrome and Firefox on iPhone cannot install web apps.
  2. Tap the Share button (the square with an arrow pointing up).
  3. Scroll down and tap Add to Home Screen.
  4. Tap Add.

Windows, Mac and Linux — Chrome, Edge or Brave

  1. Open thediscombill.com.
  2. Click the install icon at the right-hand end of the address bar — or open the ⋮ menu and choose Install TheDiscomBill.
  3. Click Install. It launches from your Start menu, Dock or Applications folder.

Don't see the option? Firefox on desktop does not support installing web apps, and some corporate or school devices disable it by policy. The site works exactly the same in a normal browser tab — installing only changes how you launch it.

What works offline, and what doesn't

We would rather be precise than oversell this. Offline, you get:

  • The full calculator — every state, DISCOM, category and slab, with fixed charges, surcharges and duty.
  • Tariff and guide pages you have already opened, served from the cache.

Offline, you do not get:

  • Pages you have never visited — those still need one connected load.
  • Bill OCR upload and expert review, which both need a server.
  • Tariff updates. Cached rates refresh next time you open the app with a connection. If a tariff order lands while you are offline, you will be computing on the previous schedule — check the rates badge on the result.

Common questions

Is this a real app or just a bookmark?

A real one, in the sense that matters: it registers a service worker, caches its own assets, runs in a standalone window with no browser chrome, and appears in your app list. It is not a native Android or iOS binary and is not distributed through either store.

Do I need to update it?

No. It updates itself in the background when you open it with a connection.

How much storage does it use?

Around a megabyte or two — the app shell, styles and tariff data, plus whatever pages you have visited. Orders of magnitude smaller than a typical native app.

How do I uninstall it?

Exactly like any app. Long-press the icon and remove it on Android or iOS; on desktop, open the installed app's ⋮ menu and choose Uninstall. Nothing is left behind on your system.

Do you track me or show ads in the app?

The installed app behaves exactly like the website — the same privacy-respecting analytics, and no ads. Your bill inputs are never sent anywhere to be calculated.

Installation is handled entirely by your browser; we cannot install anything on your device ourselves. Figures in the calculator are provisional estimates computed from published tariff orders — always verify against your printed bill.
