Cookie Policy
The short version: TheDiscomBill sets no cookies of its own. Not one. The only cookies on this site come from Google Analytics, they exist to count visits, and you can block them without breaking anything. Everything else we keep is stored on your device and never sent to us.
Last updated 2 August 2026 · Applies to thediscombill.com and the installed app. See also our Privacy Policy.
The only cookies on this site
Two, both set by Google Analytics 4, and only on the live site — they are not set on local or preview builds.
| Cookie | Set by | Purpose | Expires |
|---|---|---|---|
_ga | Google Analytics | Distinguishes one browser from another so a returning visitor is not counted twice | 2 years |
_ga_D0SSNW5RZ6 | Google Analytics | Keeps session state for this specific property | 2 years |
That is the complete list. There are no advertising cookies, no cross-site tracking cookies, and no third-party marketing pixels on this site, because we do not run ads and do not sell anything.
What we store on your device instead
Most of what the site remembers is kept in your browser's own storage rather than in cookies. The practical difference matters: cookies are sent to a server with every request; these are not. They stay on your device and we never receive them.
| Name | Kind | What it is for |
|---|---|---|
theme | Local storage | Whether you chose light or dark mode |
lang | Local storage | Your language choice (English, हिंदी, मराठी, தமிழ்) |
tdb-remote-fppa | Local storage | A cached copy of published fuel-surcharge rates, so the calculator works offline |
discombill.role | Local storage | Only for reviewers and admins — shows the right console link in the menu |
sb-…-auth-token | Local storage | Keeps you signed in for expert bill review. Only exists if you create an account. |
ocrCloudConsent | Session storage | Remembers that you agreed to cloud OCR, so you are not asked again in the same visit. Cleared when you close the tab. |
discombill-… | Cache storage | The offline app cache — pages and tariff data the service worker saved so the calculator runs without a connection |
Your bill inputs are not in that list, and that is deliberate. Units, sanctioned load, meter readings and the computed bill are held in memory while you use the calculator and are not written anywhere unless you explicitly save a bill.
Do you need to accept anything?
No, and you will not see a cookie banner here. We do not set cookies that require consent, and the two analytics cookies are the kind you can turn off in your browser in seconds without losing any functionality.
The one place we do ask permission is cloud OCR: if you upload a bill photo, you are asked before the image is sent anywhere, and you can decline and have it read on your own device instead. That is a genuine choice about your data, so it gets a real prompt rather than a banner you dismiss without reading.
How to block or clear all of it
- Block the analytics cookies — use your browser's cookie settings, any content blocker, or Google's own opt-out add-on. The site works exactly the same without them.
- Clear everything we store — clear site data for thediscombill.com in your browser settings. That removes the cookies, the local storage entries and the offline cache in one go. You will be signed out and your theme and language reset to defaults; nothing else is lost.
- Browse privately — a private or incognito window discards all of it when you close the window.
- Remove the installed app — uninstalling it also removes its offline cache. See Install.
Changes to this policy
If we ever add a cookie, this page changes before it ships and the date above moves. If we were ever to add something requiring consent, you would be asked rather than told.
Questions, or something here that does not match what you see in your browser? Write to support@thediscombill.com — a mismatch would be a bug worth fixing.
This page describes our actual practice and is written to be read rather than to be impressive. It is not legal advice. Full detail on everything else we handle is in the Privacy Policy.
