MSEDCL WSS Portal: View & Pay Your Bill on Web Self Service

6 min read · Updated 21 July 2026

WSS stands for Web Self Service — the self-service portal your DISCOM runs so you can view, pay and download your electricity bill and raise service requests without visiting an office. The best-known one is MSEDCL's (Mahavitaran) portal at wss.mahadiscom.in, but Kerala's KSEB, West Bengal's WBSEDCL and several other DISCOMs run the same kind of WSS. This guide walks through what it does, how to pay with or without registering, and the service requests you can file on it.

What is the WSS (Web Self Service) portal?

Web Self Service is a DISCOM's consumer self-service website. Instead of standing in a queue at the section office, you use your consumer number to view your current bill, pay it, download past bills and receipts, and log requests such as a name change or load change. On MSEDCL it lives at wss.mahadiscom.in; the same "WSS" branding is used by KSEB Kerala (wss.kseb.in) and others, so the steps below apply broadly even though screens differ.

You do not need an account to pay a single bill — registration only helps if you want to manage several connections or keep your payment history in one place.

Pay your bill without logging in (quick pay)

This is what most people want, and it's the fastest route:

  1. Open wss.mahadiscom.in and choose "Pay Bill" or "View Current Bill".
  2. Enter your 12-digit consumer number (top-left of your bill) and, if asked, the billing unit or a mobile OTP.
  3. Check the units, billing period, due date and amount. If the reading looks wrong, don't pay yet — see how to read your MSEDCL bill first.
  4. Pay by UPI, net banking, card or wallet and save the receipt with its transaction ID.

Settlement can take a few hours to reflect on the bill, so keep the receipt until the status shows paid. Paying by the due date usually earns a small prompt-payment rebate on the bill.

Registering an account — and when it's worth it

Registration removes repeat data entry and lets you attach multiple consumer numbers (home, shop, a parent's connection) under one login. To register on the MSEDCL WSS:

  1. Click "New User / Register" and enter a consumer number plus your registered mobile number and email.
  2. Verify with the OTP sent to that mobile/email and set a password.
  3. Log in and add more consumer numbers to the same account if you manage several.

If you only ever pay one bill, skip registration and use quick pay. Register if you want bill history, auto-reminders, or to handle several meters.

Download bills and payment history

Logged in, open "View / Download Bill" to save a PDF of the current or past bills — useful for HRA claims, loan files or a rent agreement. "Payment History" lists every payment against a consumer number with dates and transaction IDs, which is the quickest way to prove a payment the bill hasn't yet credited. Unregistered users can still download the current bill from the View Bill screen.

Service requests you can file on WSS

Beyond paying, the WSS portal accepts most routine service requests, so you rarely need to visit an office:

  • New connection — apply with premises and load details and upload documents. See our MSEDCL new-connection guide for the full flow.
  • Name change / transfer and billing-address correction.
  • Load extension or reduction — changing your sanctioned load (which sets your fixed charge).
  • Disconnection and reconnection requests.

Each request generates a reference number — note it to track status on the same portal.

Check your bill is correct before you pay

The portal shows what MSEDCL billed — it can't tell you whether that figure is right. Before paying a bill that looks high, run your units through the bill calculator on MSEDCL's real slabs, fixed charges, FPPA and electricity duty, and compare. If you're on a prepaid smart meter, the recharge calculator shows how long a top-up will last. For the tariff itself, see the MSEDCL tariff page.

Frequently asked questions

What is the WSS portal in electricity?
WSS stands for Web Self Service — a DISCOM's online self-service portal where you view and pay your electricity bill, download bills and receipts, and file service requests like name change, load change or a new connection. MSEDCL's WSS is at wss.mahadiscom.in; KSEB, WBSEDCL and others run similar portals.
What is the website for the MSEDCL WSS portal?
The official MSEDCL (Mahavitaran) Web Self Service portal is wss.mahadiscom.in. Use only the official site to pay bills — check the address bar before entering any details.
Can I pay my MSEDCL bill without registering on WSS?
Yes. Use the "Pay Bill" or "View Current Bill" option, enter your 12-digit consumer number, verify the amount and pay by UPI, net banking, card or wallet. Registration is only needed if you want to manage multiple connections or keep your full payment history.
Where do I find my consumer number for the WSS portal?
It is the 12-digit number printed near the top of your MSEDCL electricity bill, usually labelled "Consumer No." Enter it exactly as printed, without spaces.
I paid on WSS but the bill still shows unpaid — what should I do?
Payment settlement can take a few hours to reflect. Keep the receipt and transaction ID; check "Payment History" on the portal, which records the payment even before the bill updates. If it isn't reflected within 2–3 working days, raise a complaint with that transaction ID.
