WSS Portal: Which Web Self Service Is Yours?

4 min read · Updated 26 July 2026

WSS stands for Web Self Service, and it is the name two Indian DISCOMs give their consumer portal: MSEDCL (Mahavitaran) in Maharashtra at wss.mahadiscom.in, and KSEB in Kerala at wss.kseb.in. They are separate sites with separate logins, which is why searching for "WSS portal" on its own tends to land you on the wrong one. This page sorts out which is yours in about a minute.

Which WSS portal is yours?

DISCOMServesWSS addressLogin needed?
MSEDCL (Mahavitaran) Maharashtra, outside Mumbai city wss.mahadiscom.in No, for a one-off bill payment
KSEB All of Kerala wss.kseb.in Yes, for most services

If your bill names a different distributor, you are not looking for a WSS portal at all. Other DISCOMs run the same kind of self-service site under their own branding, and you can find yours on our DISCOM services directory.

MSEDCL WSS: pay without an account

Maharashtra's portal is the more permissive of the two. You can pay a bill without registering at all: choose Pay Bill, type the 12-digit consumer number printed at the top of your Mahavitaran bill, check the units and due date, and pay by UPI, net banking or card. Registering is only worth it if you manage several connections or want your billing history in one place.

The full walkthrough, including the service requests you can file there, is in our MSEDCL WSS portal guide.

KSEB WSS: one portal for the whole state

Kerala has a single distributor, so one WSS covers everything: new connections, bills for an existing consumer number, ownership transfers, load changes and tariff changes. Most of it sits behind a login, so register with a mobile number and email first. A new LT connection costs a flat ₹50 to apply for, and small loads that need nothing more than a service drop can be energised in as little as two working days under KSEB's package connection.

See our KSEB new connection guide for the document checklist and timelines, or the KSEB tariff page for the slab rates you will be billed at.

What a WSS portal can and cannot do

Both portals cover the same ground: view the current bill, pay it, download past bills and receipts, and log service requests such as a name change or a load change. What neither will do is tell you whether the bill is correct. The portal shows you the amount the DISCOM has computed; it does not show the slab arithmetic behind it.

That is worth checking yourself when a bill jumps. Put your units into the bill calculator and compare the total, or read why an electricity bill suddenly increases for the usual causes.

Payments that do not show up straight away

A WSS payment is not always reflected on the bill immediately. Settlement can take a few hours, and in some cases until the next billing cycle, so keep the transaction reference until the portal shows the bill as paid. Do not pay twice on the strength of a stale screen. If a payment has left your account but the bill still reads unpaid after a working day, raise it with the DISCOM quoting the transaction ID rather than paying again.

Now check your own bill

Reading is half the job — run your own units through your DISCOM's real slab rates, fixed charges and FPPA and get an itemised bill in seconds. Free, no sign-up.
