How It Works

The calculator uses the latest publicly available tariff orders from each DISCOM. It computes charges using the slab-wise (cumulative) method: the rate for each slab applies only to the units consumed within that slab, not to the entire consumption. Fixed / demand charges are applied separately based on your connected (sanctioned) load.

Electricity Duty, fuel adjustment charges, and other state levies are applied as specified in each DISCOM's tariff schedule.

⚠ Disclaimer: This is a provisional bill calculator for reference and educational purposes only. The tariff rates used here are approximate, based on publicly available tariff orders, and may not reflect the latest revisions or local surcharges. Actual bills from your DISCOM may differ. Always contact your DISCOM or visit their official website for accurate and official billing information. TheDiscomBill is not affiliated with any electricity utility or government body.

Frequently asked questions

How does TheDiscomBill calculate my electricity bill?
It applies your DISCOM's published tariff using the slab-wise (cumulative) method: each slab rate applies only to units consumed within that slab. Fixed or demand charges are added based on your sanctioned load, then fuel surcharge (FPPA), electricity duty and other state levies as specified in the tariff schedule. We verify the engine against real consumer bills — see our methodology & accuracy page for the full sourcing and verification process.
Is the calculated bill an official bill?
No. It is a provisional estimate for reference, based on publicly available tariff orders. Your actual bill may differ due to recent tariff revisions, local surcharges or arrears. Always rely on your DISCOM's official bill for payment.
Which DISCOMs and states are supported?
65+ DISCOMs across all 35 Indian states and union territories, including UPPCL (MVVNL, PVVNL, DVVNL, PuVVNL, KESCO), BESCOM, MSEDCL, TANGEDCO, PSPCL, Tata Power-DDL, BSES, Adani Electricity, CESC, KSEB, WBSEDCL and more, with 150+ consumer categories. See the full state & DISCOM directory.
What is FPPA on an electricity bill?
FPPA (Fuel and Power Purchase Adjustment) is a surcharge DISCOMs levy to recover changes in fuel and power-purchase costs. Depending on the state it is charged either as a per-unit rate or as a percentage of energy charges; TheDiscomBill applies whichever method your DISCOM's tariff order specifies.
Does it handle solar net metering and Time-of-Day billing?
Yes. The calculator supports solar net metering credits (exported units offset imported units) as well as Time-of-Day (ToD) tariffs and kVAh billing where a DISCOM uses them. There is also a dedicated rooftop solar savings estimator.
Is TheDiscomBill free to use?
Yes — the calculator, tariff pages, comparison and solar tools are free with no sign-up. An optional free account unlocks the expert Bill Review service, where you can upload a bill and chat with a reviewer.
